Subject: Updating School Interior
As a former student of the City College of New York I had noticed upon entering the campus that the inside of the buildings do not reflect the same welcoming scene as the outside. Often leaving students with less enthusiasm and excitement to learn due to the dull and featureless interior.
The inside of the main academic building, especially, mainly consists of grey walls, with grey bricks and sometimes leads to just grey classrooms. Due to the layout of the building, some of these classrooms don’t have any windows, promoting a further sense of isolation. Many students often find it easy to lose focus in these classrooms because of the lack of stimulation. Others compare the hallways and rooms to that of a prison because of the lack of color and rough textures. It is all a sharp contrast to the outside of the buildings that look sleek, new and exciting by comparison.
Minor changes in the presentation of the hallways and classrooms can have drastic improvements on the outlook of students. Such as repainting the rooms with brighter colors in order to make them more inviting and lively. We have a fantastic art program that can be utilized to create murals or other artistic designs in the hallways and windowless classrooms. The use of brighter colors and artistic images can give students a sense of pride and amazement at what each floor and room will contain. This can further remove the feelings of isolation that accompany much of the building. The change in colors can also save the school money, with the use of brighter colors, the classrooms can reflect light and brighten up the rooms using less energy.
I would like to thank you for taking the time to read what I have proposed and hope that you consider these options. If you would like to discuss this further you can reach me at myemail@gmail.com
